Daisy was 3 1/2 in this video, the pups are now 18 months old and all are doing well- of the nine 6 families have x-rayed hips and elbows and all are clear- families can help keep breeds healthy by making sure to give breeders health data about their dogs- it is very important to understand that breeders can only get rid of health issues if we have the help of our puppy owners. To have healthy search and rescue, istance dogs OR pets we have to watch the details and data.

Any dog can have …
Any dog can have medical problems that is why IF you buy from a breeder folks need to be educated as to what to ask and know how puppeis should be raised or my may get a dog that is unhealthy and has a bad temperament. A pedigree does not make a good dog, all dogs have pedigrees some are just not written down! Responsible dog breeders do not breed for the money- ever- and they always have the best interest of the breed in mind. And the people that get my dogs x-ray and give me health data!

oh yeah well, tghat …
oh yeah well, tghat was the point! haha! we have 5 dogs, 4 of them are from a shelter that is just blocks away. too bad we’re not rich to rescue every dog from there.. but we do rescue and cure them until we get thema house. the shelter here is very strict and i dont want any dog to die! and the other one is a rottweiler (a very kind one, dont worry) and we wanted a chocolate lab :)

You can’t be sure …
You can’t be sure but if the parents were x-rayed the OFA (registry number) will appear on the AKC papers - the pet store should be able to show you the papers adn you can see if the parents were x-rayed and what grade they got. You do have choices! I can say with 100% accuracy that you do not get what you pay for at a pet store, it is generally a really horrible choice especially for a Lab pup. Go to a dog show to meet breeders- tell me where you live and I can find someone who can help you.

If you have any …
If you have any questions let me know, you have x-rayed the parents hips, done the eyes (optigen test and CERF) as well as hearts and thyroid? Those tests are the basics and how you have healthy pups. I breed ONLY with a dog and combination I have confidence will be healthy. If you are going to breed you need to do your homework and if you don’t buyers can(and will) sue you if pups are
unhealthy. There are so many dogs in rescue no need to breed much of the time. Happy to ist if needed.

I have used both- …
I have used both- Penn hip results do not correlate very well with OFA- so a Lab can be OFA excellent and have a very low Penn hip but if you look at their Labrador data graph the correlation between a low Penn hip and dysplasia is not high. So that leaves me with a lot of questions and very few Lab folks use Penn hip, it is a great tool along with production records and OFA. I will do both with the pup I kept from this litter.

They are six weeks …
They are six weeks in the video and just turned one year- four have been x-rayed for hips and elbows and are clear. I give puppy owners $200 back to x-ray their dogs so I KNOW that I did my best to breed heatlhy Labradors. Genetics is only one piece but it is no accident when a reputable breeder has healthy, happy puppies. Pet people need to learn what to look for in a reputable breeder-no reason to breed if health is not a priority!
