My yellow lab loves to fetch tennis balls and other toys. But, how do I train him to bring me his leash? He wants to get it, but he turns away at the last second.
Use a specific command for his leash.
Wrap his leash up so that he can easily carry it in his mouth.
Toss it, like you would normally play fetch, and tell him to "Go get the leash!" and praise him as soon as he starts heading for it.
(He may get distracted and turn away at the last second, so you need to let him know that he’s headed in the right direction.)
Praise him and give him treats (if you’d like) when he successfully retrieves his leash.
After you think he’s learned the command, leave his leash on the other side of the room and command him to retrieve his leash. Praise him as soon as he starts for his leash and make sure he is compensated for completing his task.

Horaayy..there are 2 comment(s) for me so far ;)
Labrador’s are called retrievers for a reason. I would play fetch with the leash. Every time I threw it I would say the word "leash." Make sure to only treat your dog when they bring it back to you and not just when they pick it up. Let them come to you. Once they make an association with the word to the object, you should be able to start saying leash and having them get it. I would say it and then be patient. Sometimes my pup takes awhile to react to my command. She could be thinking or she is just being lazy.
