I plan to get a chocolate lab in the near future. I've been reading about them and so I've read that they are average shedders. I've never owned a dog before, so can someone explain to me how much they shed hair in a more detailed manner?
Labs shed a ton of hair & are not considered average except for sites that are nicely detailing the breeds instead of giving the truth. They have thick medium length hair that comes out mostly in 2 annual shedding times but also will shed some year around. If you looked a few questions below, you would have seen the question of what to do with my heavy shedding lab.

Horaayy..there are 9 comment(s) for me so far ;)
make sure your carpet matches your labs coat.
Only purchase clothes that match your lab.
Keep a lint roller by the door and roll it over you before you leave the house.
Purchase a REALLY good vaccuum

I think labs are the worst shedders, my friends has one and I swear they have to vaccume 3 times a day. It would never be a breed for allergy sufferers lol. They say that longer haired dogs actually shed less so don't be fooled, they shed very bad Good luck

Hardwood floors (or Pergo, or Tile) are your friend.
Not only are they easier to vacuum, they're easier to clean up muddy paw prints.
We have a Lab and a Lab mix, and I just spent half an hour vacuuming up Lab Hair dust bunnies around the house. We last vacuumed on Sunday. Lots of light wispy black furbunnies.
Oh - and make sure that you have a good lint trap on your dryer and that you clean it regularly. Because the floors aren't the only thing that will end up with dog hair.

A lot, and the more you brush them, the more they shed! Then, when you bathe them (good luck with that) you'll get tons more hair.
Did you see the movie Marley and Me? Double it……….
Pick a dog from the shelter, loving, potty trained, ect…

in the spring they shed some all dogs do but if you teach them to like brushes then you should have no problem, if you have bedding for them it might get hairy so keep those washed and cleaned. i have a lab and sometimes she sheds in clumps but i have wood floors so if you have carpets then you might want to get a good vac, don't let them on the furniture, get them their own bed ETC….i used one of those little couches for i guess toddlers (got it at walmart-around $20 but it was well worth it) works great. she thought she was on her own couch!

labs are great dogs!
they do shed tho.
It is pretty surprising that their cousins, the golden retriever, shed less then them. Not by much tho. Just be ready to groom and know that u will have hair on u and ur carpets and couched. but there are tools that u can use to get rid of them!

Grooming doesn't get much easier than with a Lab, but the breed does shed–a lot. Buy a quality vacuum cleaner and brush your dog daily, especially when he's shedding, to get out the loose hair.
