Loving, lovable and very patient. Highly intelligent and good-natured. The Labrador Retriever is one of the friendliest breeds in the world.

This comprehensive video, courtesy of Eukanuba, is a great way to gain an understanding of the history, characteristics and care for this amazing breed.

I would like a dog …
I would like a dog that is full of energy, and able to do activities such as jogging in forests beside me… a dog ready to put down a lot of work. Still, I would like a nice, friendy and cosy dog : )

What dog would that be?

Labrador Retrievers …
Labrador Retrievers used to be one of the safest breeds you could buy, but sadly, this is no longer the case. Obedience instructors and behavioral consultants are seeing more and more Labrador Retrievers who are neurotic, hyperactive, or dominant/aggressive. It’s the unfortunate result of popularity that the typically glorious Labrador Retriever temperament can no longer be taken for granted.

My lab retriever …
My lab retriever Honey DESPISES water, always have always will. Ever since she was a pup she would not go in, we even had a lake at the back garden when we first brought her home.

She’s a big eating machine as well..

She’s also not too good with other dogs, she’s not aggressive she just doesn’t like being around them, but she’s a huge people dog.

She’s awesome with kids too. If they give her too much crap she’ll just walk away into another room.

A star family dog to have.

I love labradors! I miss my lab so much, your name was Dante. I don’t know where he is now, all that my parents told me is that he’s at a farm now… It was when I travel to my grandfathers house and come back to home, he was not there anymore so I cryed like a kid.

That’s my Gracie; …
That’s my Gracie; she lives to eat. I love the walrus comparison. She hates eating the diet stuff, so I mix in a can of green beans, which she throws aside anyway. I try to drag her outside, but she “makes excuses” by stopping to sniff every friggin’ blade of grass and stone. ARRGH! She WILL do short sprints after a squirrel or bunny, though.

Good dog, GOOOOOOD …
Good dog, GOOOOOOD doggie! I may just switch to the very expensive Eukaneuba! The love of my life (after my husband and daughter), Gracie was terribly inbred and is suffering from the worst hip displasia I’ve ever seen. I told my husband to get me a rescue dog when our beloved black lab mix Sammy died, but no, he shelled out the dollars to a puppy mill. Still, Gracie shows unconditional love to all.

They are very …
They are very greedy dogs, always thinking about food constantly and gulp food down. My tip is measure their food or else they get fat. I give my adult 10yr old 1/2 tin food plus 3/4 mug of mixer in the morning and same at tea time.

It’s very true that …
It’s very true that you should be careful not to overfeed Labs. You can easily end up with a fat, lazy walrus of a dog instead of the athlete you could have had. Being overweight also shortens a dog’s life.

That Lab appetite is insane. I now have to feed my Lab and Goldendoodle separately because the Lab hogs so much food. You could easily change the breed’s name to “Chowhound.”
